PLOT OF THE STORY
The story continues from where it was left in the previous book of the series 'an ember in the ashes'. Elias and laia is running from the empire. More than the empire ,the blood shriek Helen herself has been assigned the mission of finding them. With Elias guidance both of them secretly gets away with the patrol of the soldiers. The poison in Elias body is concurring him bit by bit. He is falling into the pit of death. When they are halfway through the desserts heading towards kauf, the main prison of the empire, Keenan the resistance member and lizzi finds both Elias and Laia. From three they travel together even though Elias and Keenan have their own problems with each other.
At last they reach nur where they seek the help of afaya's tribe and Elias own tribal people. From their they travel with afaya to the north. But midway Elias plans to go alone to kauf as he discovers he only has 2 weeks in front of him before he dies and if he travel with the tribe it will take him more time. And he goes of to kauf.
But soon after his departure the tribe is attacked by the masks raiding that area. The wagons are burned down, lzzi dies and some of the scholars. Then Laia decides to sent the tribe away and she and Keenan start their journey towards kauf. They steal horses change path to avoid soilders and at last they reach the cave near kauf where Elias promised to be with Darin.
But alas Elias has not yet reached their ,and they understand that he has been caught by the warden. Now both Laia and Keenan has to go into the prison and break both of them out.
But soon Laia discovers Keenan's secret. And Elias has to make a deal with the soul catcher to live long. Laia is devasted after knowing the secret of Keenan. Someone comes to help Laia from her troubles. Who is it? Will Elias save Darin or will the empire catch him before that? To know further read the book.
REVIEW OF THE BOOK
Iam totally over this book. It's such a brilliant book. The style of writing and how the characters have been portrayed is fabulous. The second book of the series didn't disappoint me. I recommend this to all fantasy lovers. I can't wait to read the third book the sequal. Sabaa Tahir has done a really good job writing this book. Each and every page is filled with surprises.
